Patient term description
Self-harm thoughts or behaviours are thoughts or behaviours associated with harming oneself as a way of dealing with very difficult feelings, painful memories or overwhelming situations. Suicidal thoughts or behaviours are when one has thoughts or acts in a way to bring about ending one's life or feeling that people would be better off without them. It can also involve thinking about methods of suicide or making clear plans to take one's life. NOTE: If you are having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, it is a mental health emergency and please get emergency advice by calling 999, going straight to A&E or calling your local crisis team.
